Eldar Phoenix Lord Karandras
the shadow hunter
The Phoenix Lord models haven't been updated since their original release way back in 1998; they are still good-looking models but I wanted to update their look slightly. For Karandras, I wanted to make the model more three-dimensional as the limbs of the original miniature all lie in the same plane. I also wanted to update the weaponry to look more modern.Date: 2012 - present (work-in-progress)
Components: 1x Phoenix Lord Karandras, 1x Dire Avenger Exarch Shuriken Pistol arm, 1x Striking Scorpion Exarch scorpion chainsword, brass rod, Green Stuff, cork, 40mm round base

The original, fatter chainsword was replaced with the more modern, thinner one from the Striking Scorpion Exarch model.
This leg was bent into a new position.
The arm was removed and repositioned.

1. Karandras's tall helmet (and the comparitively diminuitive stature of the Striking Scorpions compared to other Eldar) meant that I didn't need to change the proportions of this Phoenix Lord.
2. A close-up of the converted helmet.
Green Stuff was used to model sharper claws on Karandras's Scorpion's Bite weapon.
A wrist-mounted Dire Avenger Exarch shuriken pistol replaced the outdated metal version.

3. Another view of the converted Scorpion's Bite weapon.

4. The repositioned legs allowed me to pose Karandras in such a way that he appears to be stepping down off from a rocky outcrop.

5. I was really pleased with the way that the dreadlocks on Karandras's helmet match the movement of the figure. It looks as if they are swaying as he moves.

6. The conversion of Karandras is now complete and ready to be undercoated.

7. Karandras, ready to be painted.
